Backstory
The ‘dome protection’ brand was born out of difficult life experiences. More than a few years ago I decided to sell my car and head to South Lake Tahoe from my home state of New Hampshire. I was on the lookout for bigger mountains and deeper snow.
Halfway through the season I overshot a landing, fell about 30 feet to flat, and went “black.” I was not wearing a helmet and suffered a serious concussion. The effects were felt for many months after.
A couple of years later, a very close friend fell victim to a near-fatal car accident. He was left with a traumatic brain injury. As I gathered information about where his recovery may lead, it also brought clarity to the brain injury I suffered while in Tahoe.
I learned that brain injuries fall on a spectrum from very mild to very severe. I also saw how important it is to have support for the long, grueling road to recovery once out of the hospital. It became clear to me that mitigating head trauma and brain injury should be the first precaution anyone takes when pushing their own individual limits.
The ‘dome’ logo had already been created by ESP, a friend I had met while working at a ski shop back east. I approached him with an idea to utilize the logo in a way that would help advocate for helmet use, and the seeds for ‘dome protection’ were planted.
The ‘dome protection’ brand finally came to realization in Reno, NV… not far from where it all began. The brands mission is to sell high-quality hats and donate to nonprofit foundations that advocate helmet use, promote brain injury awareness, and help injured athletes.
